13 APRIL - Today is the last ICT workshop run by the 08/09 AJK. The new AJK will be announced and elected on the 15th of April (This Wednesday).

Anyway, today workshop is the workshop on Movie Making using Windows Movie Maker, and the Instructor is... Amirul The Moderator a.k.a. me, haha.The workshop is working well. The ICT member is happy, can see from their faces.

Okayy... I will do this informal (Sorry if u're not comfortable with it). I use the video made by me for this workshop, I mean the video is 'acted' by me, haha... Then I teach them how to make the simple movie making, since most of them is never use Windows Movie Maker.

Focus Object Tutorial

focus object:
the main objective here is, we will make the image to focus on something/someone and make the others blur.

-copy/duplicate the 'background' layer (you can see the layer in your bottom right hand side of the screen) by using the shortcut key CTRL+J.
-there will be a new layer formed; 'background copy'.
-then click on the 'background copy' and make the layer invisible by clicking the eye beside it.
-next, click on the 'background' layer.
-make the 'background' layer blur; go to filter>blur>gaussian blur>chose any radius until you satisfy.
-after that, click on the 'background copy' layer and make it visible again by making the eye appear again.
-after you done that, choose Eraser; shortcut key is E.
-then go up and you will see 'brush', click on it and choose the brush with '200' which is the blur brush.
-finally erase the part in the picture we didnt want to focus. ERASE THE AREA WHERE YOU DO NOT WANT TO FOCUS!
-after you finish with everything, emerge all layer into one; click CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E.
-now you will have a new layer call, layer 1.
-guess what, you finished with the focus object tutorial.
-you can save the image if you want because we already done with what we wanted.

extreme contrast:
for those who still want to continue, you can click here for the next step. we gonna mix the tutorial before, the focus object with extreme contrast. or you can also skip this tutorial and go to the next step which is the 'soft glow effect'.

soft glow effect:

It’s not exactly “The Jetsons” — not yet, anyway — but the world is getting closer.

Thanks to some truly incredible technology, the world will look very different in 10 years:

Advances in miniaturization and wireless communication mean technology will be almost invisible but threaded throughout bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms and workplaces, the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies predicts. “All family members will be occupied with different activities, from playing piano to making cheese, brewing beer and designing clothes, to painting, backyard golf and fitness,” it says.
When everything is connected like this, the details of your life will be flying around the air. In that world, security becomes paramount. Forget face-recognition software; in 2017, it will be all about the eyes. “I think it’s possible to free us completely from our wallets and keys using biometric technology if that’s what people want in 10 years’ time,” said Don Monro, a professor at the University of Bath in England.
In 2017, more of us will be living with cancer, but the good news is that a cancer diagnosis will be quicker and easier — as simple as taking a breath. And when a frightening diagnosis comes in, effective treatments will be at hand. “We will start to see successful treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease that actually treat the disease process, not just the symptoms, like current drugs do,” said Dr. Rudolph Tanzi of Massachusetts General Hospital.

Riley gets up on his own and is on the computer between 6:30 and 7 a.m. everyday. “The best part is I can get my school work done earlier and I can get my horse exercised and rode every day,” he told NBC’s Kevin Tibbles.

“Good teaching is good teaching,” said Troy Mayfield, Branson’s school superintendent. “The only difference is how we do it.”

Christina Narayan of Colorado Springs has taught online for five years, even though she has never been to Branson.

“No matter which city my students live in, how far they are from me in terms of distance ... they feel like they’re part of a classroom, part of a family,” she said.

Some experts agree, saying students can get more one-on-one attention than they would in a traditional classroom.

“Online teachers actually report that they know their online students better than they know their classroom students, because they’re constantly interacting by e-mail, by phone [and] in discussion boards,” said John Watson, a consultant with Evergreen Consulting Associates, a network of professionals in online education.

According to Mayfield, the future of education is a lifeline in the present in Branson.

“I think it would be realistic to say if the school wasn’t open, the town would probably no longer exist,” he said.

‘A whole new range of talents’
Halfway around the world, they have a different philosophy. In China, more and more parents are stretching their thin budgets to find intensive personal tutoring for children as young as 3 years old.

“Talking about the future, the biggest word I’m concerned about is ‘competition,’ ” said Joseph Tan, an automotive executive in Shanghai, who spends $160 every month to send his daughter, You-See, to what are called “early MBA” lessons.

At a learning center in Shanghai, 3-year-old boys line up to have their fingerprints scanned into a computer. Parents pay up to $60 to have their sons’ prints and brain waves analyzed to figure out what subjects they should specialize in.

“Society demands a whole new range of talents,” Li Yue Er, a child education specialist, told NBC News’ Mark Mullen. “It’s more fierce than any time in the past 20 years with a market for jobs that never even existed in the past.”

Would You Watch TV on Your Contact Lenses?

Cue the creepy futuristic music: Some British consultants are claiming that the future of television is in contact lenses.

The idea is that television technology would shrink till it was the size of a standard contact, which would then be powered by body heat. You could change channels with motion or voice commands, and the people around you wouldn't be able to tell what you were watching.

Their argument is that the technology would make TV feel more immediate and interactive — you'd practically be in the show. On the other hand, um, my parents always told me to sit further away from the TV! And I'd think this would make it very hard to have a Super Bowl party or watch a movie with friends.

If such a thing does become possible, would you ever want to watch TV via contact lenses?

We've all heard about the incredible growth of the App Store, which has seen more than 500 million downloads across over 15,000 applications. Much of the innovation (or at least, money) has come from games and other entertaining apps like Smule's Ocarina and Pandora Radio. But the iPhone is also poised to make huge strides in a somewhat less glamorous space: study guides.

With gigabytes of storage, dimensions comparable to traditional note cards, and a full color screen, the iPhone is the ultimate study companion. And, unlike many of its smartphone competitors, the iPhone and iPod Touch have huge appeal for the younger crowds that generally flock to study materials.

Unfortunately the current state of the 'Education' section of the App Store leaves something to be desired - many of the top apps are poorly designed, and some of the best-selling applications in both the 'paid' and 'free' sections have fewer than 100 total reviews. I blame this mostly on a general lack of awareness; something that could easily changed if Apple started marketing the iPhone's learning applications as heavily as it has its games. Regardless of current demand, some of the large test-prep companies are beginning to realize there's money to be made here.

In late December, Kaplan teamed with app developer Jirbo to release its first test prep application, SAT Flashcubes. The result: a quirky vocab tutor with spinning cubes that hasn't fared very well, with a grand total of six reviews. But Kaplan isn't putting all of its eggs in one basket: today it released its second (and more conventional) application for the NCLEX-RN exam, and have at least eight more in the works. Kaplan is the first mover (which may be key), but don't be surprised if The Princeton Review, Barrons, and other large publishers have their own apps on the drawing board.

In the meantime, a number of smaller publishers have released their own applications, spanning everything from basic flash cards and SAT vocabulary to memorizing the amino acids (a rite of passage for every pre-med student). Many of these apps seem to work well, but they may be overtaken once the aforementioned "trusted names" start establishing a larger presence.

Test prep and study guides represent a massive market, with many teens and young adults (and their parents) willing to drop serious amounts of money on anything that could conceivably help get higher test scores. Many of these students are so driven that, with a large enough selection, the App Store's Education section could lead them to buy an iPod Touch or iPhone when they wouldn't have gotten one otherwise. So maybe Apple should give the games a little less attention for a while, and let everyone know that they've got "the smartest iPod ever".

as we promised you guys we did our picnic and we did have some fun. everything went well but our programme on face painting was cancelled because the Secretary forgot to bring it, but we manange to handle everything! yay!!

hehe..anyhoots, first thing in the morning we filled up the 120 balloons and Sahmin and midi were playing around..haha..sampai lain lain ulah durg~ ehem!

then we gather round explain things and we did ice breaking lead by YDP Hakim. next every group performed something for everuone and introduce just to get acquaint.

then we teacher fina announced the winner of the presentation
1. blue team
2. green team
3. yellow team

after that it was almost 1030, so we had our early lunch..hehe..then when everyone is kanyang and happy kmi main balloon! we were all WET cuz we were throwing balloons at each other and it was exciting! LOL

then we had to sing "father Ibrahim' songs ramai-ramai in a circle basah2 n also dancing and clapping the "we are wet by balloon" song..! it was all worth it

then we went down to the beach built sand castle from each team. it took around minutes to finish. then we went back up to change and EAT again and lepak ceta ceta..then sudah KANYANG AND HAPPY we went home safely..

to all the members who came we would like to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US AND HAVING LOTS OF FUN! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

well after the Modified General Paper exam was over, we had our meeting with teacher Fina and the MAGE Club as promised. so everything went well. in conclusion, we can help them in their project and we the ICT Club are going to have an exhibition during the 30th anniversary of Maktab Duli. but before that we are going to have a workshop twice just to add in some info and interesting stuff for the exhihbition.

let's make it happen!! come on, we are the first batch that's going to have the very first exhibition...hehehehe...

Meeting with the MAGE Club

Today we just had our meeting with the MAGE Club about the exhibition that we will be held hopefully next year.

What we talked about:
1.) MAGE Club need help in designing their artwork
2.) when the exhibition will be held
3.) we decided to combine our exhibition and MAGE Club in one day.
4.) hopefully the exhibition will be roughly around in April to July

we were just discussing the main idea and tomorrow we are going to have another meeting with teacher Hjh Roszaffina.

here we have some upcoming plan for ICT Club where we are gonna make an exhibition "ICT Club Day" which will be held after the End Of Year Exam..there we are going to introduce any new techs or software which is useful for students nowadays..

but, juz abt two days ago MAGE Club need our help in their project in something to do wit creating a computer graphics. they are also goin to have an exhibition abt their club. so we still don't knw whether we are goin to do the exhibition at the same day or not. another idea, we (ICT Club) planned to do the exhibition during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Maktab Duli.

in conclusion, tomorrow we the AJK of ICT Club are going to have a meeting with the MAGE Club discuss the main idea here..

just hope we could help the MAGE Club and make it happen successfully!

On the first day of this competition, we’re really busy preparing the thing that we need 2 bring, n preparing the thing 2 decorate our booth. It was really what we call “last minute preparation”, because we’re still typing n printing for our booth n we even do the cutting n decorating on our way 2 Lumut in the van. Even worst that we’re spraying the manila card in the van, be-bau jua tuu… n when we buka the tabuk of the van untuk menghilangkan bau, habis tebuka tudung si Zirah.

When we arrive at the school, we really impressed with the school landscape n environment, it is nothing but ‘wow….’ N Zirah also said that, “macam sekulah ku duluu…” Then we need 2 usai2 the booth, by pasting whatever that were decorate n print n cut n spray in the van. After that, the peoples start 2 come 2 drop by our booth, n we start 2 speak like a salesman advertising their stuff. This happens continuously. Suddenly, the guest of honor, visit our booth. Then we just, speak whatever it is that related 2 our project. It is glad 2 hear the good response frm her.

Some people that come 2 our booth, minta ajar how 2 use the Photoshop, some minta Photoshop CS3 installer, some minta gambar that we edit, n some kn melihat si Ira n Zirah, haha…. telampau chantique bah ia atu, haha. We really have a good time btw.We also visit every booth that joins the competition, n si Ira jahat-wah, she said that “mcm boring2 saja booth diorang ani”. We don’t xpect that our booth mendapat sambutan yg mengalakkan, until we perasan 2 win dis competition. We make 5 copy of our leaflet, n we don’t xpct that it would run out that soon. Many people also want our websites n email, so we have 2 write down our email n websites balik2.

When it’s about time 2 balik, we pack up our thing n we balik haha. On the way balik, we eat ayam KFC tchr Fina belanja (thank u tchr, haha…) in the van. The first one 2 eat it is Zirah, haha, just like xpected. It was fun in the van, we cerita2, we be-cali, n we bully si Zirah.

Inforama 2008 / ICT Camp Carnival

This event takes place in Sekolah Menengah PAP Rashidah Lumut (in Belait), on the last 11 n 12 of August. It was quite fun. We’re showing our ICT skills booth. There are 2 teams frm MD, the first team is the team of Rahimi n Mahmud, n the second team is our group consists of Amirul, Sahmin(ICT club vice president), Hazirah(ICT club president) n Ira.

Basically every group that joins this competition is given a small booth 2 show off their project or their ICT skills in education. Our team is doing the Photoshop project, showing the edited pictures, background, layout n many more. We do dis project because 2 show our skills in this thing n 2 show our work. U can c our work in the ICT Lab 2, at the back. The pictures that we’re showing are from our personal collection n some is specially made 4 dis competition. The team of Rahimi n Mahmud, is doing the video/movie making thing, not really sure what they do.

Saturday 8/16/08 Meeting

The meeting last Saturday is all abt the announcement of the ICT Day. The date haven't decided yet, but just prepared 4 it.
